Scott receives $60k pay hike
by Sarah
R. Buchholz, Chronicle staff
hancellor David K. Scott received a $60,000
pay increase from the University this month, retroactive to July
1999. Scott's new salary is $220,000 per year.
Scott's previous
salary, $160,000, was less than at least nine campus administrators,
including at least four deans.
The increase
came as a result of a President's Office study done this summer
of the salaries of leaders of comparable public institutions, according
to Robert Connolly, associate vice president for Communications.
The study revealed a market average of nearly $214,000, according
to Kay Scanlan, interim assistant vice chancellor for Communications
and Marketing. The College and University Professional Association
of Human Resources reports the national median as being more than
$225,000. Connolly said the study could lead to increases for leaders
at some of the other campuses as they are reviewed or their employment
anniversaries come up but that Scott was the first person to benefit
from the study.
Scott plans to
take a one-year paid leave of absence after stepping down June 30.
