Iowa State post eludes Marrett

by Daniel J. Fitzgibbons, Chronicle staff

S enior Vice Chancellor and Provost Cora B. Marrett was passed over this week for the presidency of Iowa State University as the state board of regents appointed the provost of the University of Maryland to the post.

Marrett was one of four finalists for the job, which went to Gregory Geoffroy, who was also a finalist for the presidency of the University of Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Marrett has been endorsed by the academic deans to serve as interim chancellor after David Scott leaves office in June. The deans recently sent a letter to President William M. Bulger urging him to name Marrett interim chancellor until a search for the post is concluded. The President's Office has not yet announced succession or search plans for the chancellor's post.

Marrett has been provost since 1997 and senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs since 1999.
