A uxiliary Services honored two individuals and two teams of staff for their outstanding performance during 1999-2000 with Achievement, Competence, Excellence awards Oct. 4.

The recognition is part of a program for staff in Administration and Finance. The purpose of the awards is "to recognize individuals or teams who consistently exceed the requirements of their positions, exemplify the values of the University, and contribute to the overall success of their unit, department, or division."

Technical specialist in Facilities Services Thomas Niedzwiecki and Edwin O. Anderson, assistant foods manager, received the employee of the period awards, and the teams at the University Store and Textbook Annex and the Hampshire Dining Commons received the team of the period awards.

Niedzwiecki was nominated by Douglas Warka, senior manager of Facilities Service and then-acting director of Business and Facilities Services Meredith Schmidt.
"Tom always has a wonderful disposition and a willingness to assist any one in the organization," Schmidt said. "His many talents and his flexibility to do whatever is best for the organization make him an outstanding employee."

Schmidt also nominated the University Store and Textbook Annex employees for their "ability to be dedicated and committed to their jobs and the organization under difficult times."

"They were able to adapt and create changes that greatly improved the operations, and it was the dedication that deserves recognition," she said.

Anderson was nominated for his award by director of Dining Services Ken Toong.

"During the 1999-2000 period, Edwin ... perform[ed] above and beyond the call of duty in customer service and is a valued member of numerous committees," Toong said. "He is often the recipient of high reviews from customers, peers, and staff."

Toong also nominated the Hampshire Dining Commons staff for its award.

"Outstanding customer service, excellent quality of food, and a great variety of concepts are all trademarks of Hampshire Dining Commons," he said. "The staff are working as a team and have transformed Hampshire into the top eating place on campus."
