Official version of Undergraduate Catalog
now accessible online

n
official version of the 2000-01 Undergraduate Catalog is online this
fall through the efforts of Academic Computing, Publications and the
Provost's Office.
"The activation
of an official University Website for the catalog brings the campus
to a new threshold," said deputy provost John Cunningham.
Cunningham emphasized
the importance of keeping information about course descriptions,
requirements for majors, minors and certificates, and pre-requisites
consistent everywhere it appears.
"It is now
timely for all units to examine [Web]sites which duplicate [the
catalog's] information so that those
sites either reproduce the approved content verbatim or clearly
label as 'unofficial' any summaries, rewrites, expansions etc. of
the information," he said.
Cunningham said
he will organize a process for updating the site annually at the
same time the printed undergraduate catalog is distributed.
He said he is
considering making the catalog available on compact disc, perhaps
when several years' catalogs are available in electronic form, and
said he would like feedback about the utility of providing such
a CD.
The site (www.umass.edu/ug_catalog/)
is accessible through the campus's "front door" page by
clicking on either the "for faculty" or the "for
current students" shortcut.
