The Board of Trustees approved the Intercampus
Graduate School of Marine Sciences and Technology at its Feb.
2 meeting on the Boston campus.
Despite the expressed concerns of the Faculty Senate that the
proposal for the school does not meet certain basic organizational
standards, board members and system administrators seemed enthusiastic
about the new venture.
"We have to make sure that our coasts and rivers, ...bays, ...and
bogs...are safe and clean," said William Bulger, University president.
The new school has the potential to involve 26 master's programs
and 20 doctoral programs from around the University system, according
to Richard J. Panofsky, an associate vice chancellor at UMass
Dartmouth.
