I am writing to strongly encourage you to look over the attached Spring 2008 offerings of the Labor/Management Workplace Education Program. PSU Unit B is a core partner in the program: LMWEP is one of ours. The Program is geared to classified workers, but any member of PSU can register. The Program welcomes a diversity of voices in the classroom. A number of PSU Board members have taken Workplace Education courses. Classes are filling fast. Members are urged to send in registrations ASAP.

Here are some comments by member Jim Schaefer (a supervisor in Grounds):

"I owe where I am today to Fran Fortino, Thom Krala, and Gerry Weidenfeld of the Labor/Management Workplace Education Program. They spent a lot of time with me in areas where I was struggling. Take LMWEP courses: Knowledge is power."

Please have a look at the offerings. The Leadership series, the Classism/Workplace Conflict series, Problem-solving/Teamwork, our nationally recognized Worker Social Justice Radio offering, Advanced Writing, the Learning to Teach course, and our computer series may be of particular interest to you. If you have ideas for LMWEP please contact our office at 5-4509 and we will forward to our PSU reps on the LMWEP Board.

The most effective worker education programs involve union-based partnerships. Unions and union members are innovators in the field of worker education. Our program has won (regional, national, and even international) recognition. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

In solidarity, Kathy Rhines
