Student clicker registration for use with OWL
Students need to register their clickers in OWL if they want to get credit for PRS questions. The steps they need to follow are below, but you can also download, edit, and print this handout and give it to them in class.
To login and register a clicker in OWL:
- Go to: http://owl.oit.umass.edu/owl-c/register/owllogin.cgi?UserType=Student
- Click on [Department]. (That means choose the department in which you are taking the class. For example, if it is an English class, choose “English.”)
- Enter your student ID for your login and your last name for your password.
- If you come to an Invalid Login page, click Try Again and try again. If you come to the Invalid Login page again, click Report It, and follow the instructions for help.
- After successfully logging in to OWL for the first time, you will come to a Welcome page. Please read the information and click Continue.
- You will then be prompted to change your password and enter you email address and phone number. After doing so click Save and Continue.
- You will then see a list of the OWL courses you are enrolled in for this department.
- Click on the name of the course for which you wish to register a clicker.
- From the Current Course Assignments page, click on the Clicker Registration link in the blue menu on the left.
- To register a new clicker, click Add New Clicker.
- Read the instructions on the New Classroom Clicker Registration Form page, enter your clicker number, and click Save Clicker Registration.
- If you have a clicker registered that you are no longer using, click the Remove link next to the Clicker ID on the Currently Registered Clickers page, enter the reason for removal, and click Remove Clicker Registration.
This should be all that is necessary. However, if a user's clicker was not registered in OWL when grading of that session occurred but registered later, then the following will need to be redone:
- Open up each session for which the student needs to be re-graded and click "Save session questions and Grading".
- Export each of these sessions over the incorrectly graded versions.
It is typically a good idea to do this a few times a semester, and always advisable before calculating final grades in case a student didn't register until late.
