Annual Faculty Report

 Annual Faculty Report and Evaluation (AFR)/Annual Review and Evaluation for Librarians (AREL)


Each year members of the faculty complete the Annual Faculty Report and Evaluation form (AFR) and librarians complete the Annual Review and Evaluation for Librarians form (AREL).  Librarians typically submit an AREL on or before July 15 and faculty members typically submit an AFR on or before October 15.  
The AFR chronicles faculty accomplishments and contributions across the full range of teaching; research, scholarly, creative, and professional activities; and service and outreach activities.  The AFR provides the official record on which many faculty personnel decisions (such as merit pay) are based, and it is vital to faculty development, both as an opportunity for self-reflection and as a basis for discussion among departmental and other colleagues. It also represents a useful opportunity to inform the society we serve of our accomplishments, so it is in our interest to be sure that what we do is fully and fairly reported.
Similarly, AREL chronicles librarian accomplishments and contributions and provides the basis for an assessment of performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.  The AREL includes professional practice; scholarly and/or professional activities; and internal and external professional service. Like the AFR, the AREL also provides the official record on which many personnel actions are based.
The AFR/AREL must be completed in the Academic Personnel Workflow System using the online form available at: https://cps.provost.umass.edu/umaerpt/auth/login under the “Create New Submission” tab.
