Welcome from the Provost

I welcome you to the Provost's Office at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. This site has been created to serve as a resource for faculty, staff and students alike and I hope you will find it useful.

A university's mission is to provide an environment where teaching and learning, service and outreach, and discovery and creativity can flourish. At the heart of this mission is Academic Affairs. The key executive officer for the area the Provost and Senor Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs works with faculty, staff and students to bring coherence to our scholarly endeavors and with other executive areas to insure a system of support for those endeavors.

We intend through this website to provide the information and experiences, on which effective coordination must rest. Through links to sites managed by academic departments and programs, we hope to offer an understanding of the contributions of the University of Massachusetts to the world of knowledge. Through explanations of practices and policies, we want always to improve the role of the Provost as steward of the academic mission.
