John A. Hird has been appointed dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, effective April 1. Interim dean since April 2014, Hird previously served as senior associate dean of the college and chair of the political science department. A member of the faculty since 1989, he was the founding director of the Center for Public Policy and Administration and the master’s program in public policy and administration from 1998 to 2006.

A search for the Dean of Social & Behavioral Sciences was launched in late November.

A search for the dean of Commonwealth Honors College (CHC) is being launched, according to Provost Katherine Newman.
“This is a critically important position as the campus positions itself to be the destination of choice for talented, diverse undergraduates from the Commonwealth and beyond,” said Newman.
The search committee is chaired by John McCarthy, vice provost for Graduate Education, dean of the Graduate School and Distinguished Professor in the department of linguistics.

Elizabeth (Betsy) Dumont of the Biology department, has been appointed Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, effective September 25, 2014.

Professor Daniel Gordon of the history department has been reappointed interim dean of Commonwealth Honors College, effective Sept. 1.
Gordon became interim dean last year after the untimely death of Dean Priscilla Clarkson, just days before the opening of the Commonwealth Honors College Residential Community.

The search committee for Commonwealth Honors College Dean has identified Laurie Kramer, Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois, as a finalist. Dr. Kramer will give a presentation to the campus community, Monday, February 24th at 3:15pm in Campus Center, 174-176, and will be available for questions until 4:45pm.
