Jack Ahern Named Vice Provost for International Programs

Provost James Staros is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Jack Ahern as Vice Provost for International Programs, effective the beginning of the Spring 2011 semester.  In this position he will assume direction of the International Programs Office.

Professor Ahern brings a deep UMass Amherst perspective to this position.  He is a UMass Amherst alumnus, and this is his 25th year on our faculty.  He also brings substantial administrative experience to this position, in particular, nine years of service as Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning.  His research program, which focuses in part on the design of sustainable urban greenways, has led to a number of international projects and

Provost Staros thanks Professor Frank Hugus for his dedicated service as Vice Provost for International Programs for the past 8+ years.  After a well-earned sabbatical this spring, Professor Hugus will be rejoining the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures next fall.
