Distinguished Academic Outreach Award Nominations

March 12, 2013

Nominations are due by Friday, March 15th, and will be accepted from any member of the University of Massachusetts Amherst community.  The awards showcase excellence among our faculty and staff who are engaged in community partnerships that create benefit for the public as well as our institution.

Nominations will be evaluated by a committee drawn from the Faculty Senate Council on University Service, Public Service and Outreach, which will make recommendations for awards to the Provost.  Previous awardees are not eligible.

Nominations are open for two awards:  Outreach Teaching and Outreach Research.  The Distinguished Outreach Teaching Award recognizes a record of community-based teaching (either for-credit or non-credit) with demonstrated impact in the community.  The Distinguished Outreach Research Award recognizes a record of community-based research, creative or professional activities that contribute to the community through creative or professional products, appropriate to an academic field or discipline.

Nominations should consist of:

* A one-page cover letter describing the academic outreach activity or activities the faculty or professional staff member has been involved with and how they address the selection criteria

* The Curriculum Vita of the nominee

* Any additional letters of support or other documentation that address the selection criteria

Winners will be awarded a prize of $3000 and will receive a certificate of merit.

Please submit completed nomination packets no later than Friday, March 15th 2013, to:
