Carol Barr Named Vice Provost for Undergraduate & Continuing Education

Provost James Staros is pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Barr as Vice Provost for Undergraduate & Continuing Education, effective September 1, 2011.   Carol, who is a double alumna (M.S. and Ph.D.) of UMass Amherst, joined the UMass Amherst faculty in 1991 and is a tenured faculty member in the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management.  She comes to her new post after five years of service as Associate Dean of the Isenberg School of Management, where she has overseen both the face-to-face and on-line undergraduate programs.  Carol has remained active in Sport Management during her service as Associate Dean, co-authoring and co-editing, respectively, two recently published books in the field and being recognized this year with the Garth Paton Distinguished Service Award of the North American Society for Sport Management, an organization that she served as President in 2006-2007.

In her capacity as Vice Provost for Undergraduate and Continuing Education, Carol will oversee the work of the Assistant Provost & Dean of Undergraduate Advising, the University Registrar, the Assistant Provost for Summer Programs, the Executive Director of Continuing & Professional Education, the Director of University Without Walls, and the Director of the Learning Resource Center, as well as ROTC, AFROTC, and English as a Second Language.
