    It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of John A. Hird, Professor of Political Science & Public Policy and Senior Associate Dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, as Interim Dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, effective April 1, 2014.

  • February 12th, 2014

    The search committee for Commonwealth Honors College Dean has identified Laurie Kramer, Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois, as a finalist.  Dr. Kramer will give a presentation to the campus community, Monday, February 24th at 3:15pm in Campus Center, 174-176, and will be available for questions until 4:45pm.

    The search committee for Commonwealth Honors College Dean has identified Daniel Gordon, Interim Dean of Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as a finalist.  Dr. Gordon will give a presentation to the campus community, Wednesday, February 12th at 2:45pm in Campus Center 163C, and will be available for questions until 4:15pm.

    The search committee for Commonwealth Honors College Dean has identified Keith Garbutt, Dean of the Honors College at West Virginia University, as a finalist.  Dr. Garbutt will give a presentation to the campus community, Monday, February 10th at 3:15pm in Campus Center 174-176 , and will be available for questions until 4:45pm.

    The search committee for Commonwealth Honors College Dean has identified Danielle T Smith, Director of the Rochester Institute of Technology Honors Program, as a finalist.  Dr. Smith will give a presentation to the campus community, Monday, February 3rd at 3:15pm in Campus Center 174-176, and will be available for questions until 4:45pm.

  • November 13th, 2013

    The University of Massachusetts invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Commonwealth Honors College.  Review of applications, which should include a curriculum vitae and a cover letter including a statement about the candidate's views on the role of honors in undergraduate education, will begin on November 29, 2013.  Acceptance of nominations and applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

    The University of Massachusetts invites applications for the position of Associate Provost and Director of the Center for Teaching & Faculty Development.

  • June 13th, 2013

    The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications and nominations for a visionary scholar of distinction to serve as the inaugural holder of the Endowed Chair in the Study of Nonviolent Direct Action and Civil Resistance, a new faculty position focused on the scientific study of nonviolent direct action and civil resistance.

  • March 12th, 2013

    Nominations are due by Friday, March 15th, and will be accepted from any member of the University of Massachusetts Amherst community.  The awards showcase excellence among our faculty and staff who are engaged in community partnerships that create benefit for the public as well as our institution.

    Nominations will be evaluated by a committee drawn from the Faculty Senate Council on University Service, Public Service and Outreach, which will make recommendations for awards to the Provost.  Previous awardees are not eligible.

    Provost James V. Staros has named Tim Anderson, Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Florida, as Dean of the College of Engineering, effective March 1, 2013.
