The University of Massachusetts is entitled to use the State Contracts. State contracts, like MHEC, Campus, and University contracts, enable the end user to issue purchase orders without limitation of amount, without further public bidding (because the state has already done a bid to select the contract vendor and establish a purchase contract). However, just because a vendor is listed as being on contract does not mean that everything they sell is covered by that contract, nor does it mean that the vendor will be on that contract indefinitely. Departments are cautioned to check the state contract details before they issue a purchase order, to insure that the item(s) they wish to purchase are covered by the contract with the particular vendor.
