Hello, my name is Jamie Broadhead. This is my second year working here at the EC Lab School as a Lead, Co-operating teacher, along with Kate, in Classroom 4. I completed my M.Ed. at UMass in May 2001 and I am currently a Doctoral student in the Early Childhood Education program. I am certified by the Massachusetts Office of Childcare Services (OCCS) as a Lead Preschool Teacher. I am also a certified K-3 teacher. I completed my B.A. at Smith College in Women's Studies. Originally, I grew up just outside of Albany, NY. I am passionate about, and committed to, my work with children. I feel honored and grateful for being able to continue my experience here, at the EC Lab School. This is a unique and dynamic learning community that truly empowers children as constructors of their own knowledge. |
Hi, my name is Kate Strub-Richards. This is my second year working at the ECLS as a Lead, Co-operating teacher, along with Jamie, in room 4. I received my M.Ed. in May 2001 and am currently a C.A.G.S. student in Child Studies. Before I came to UMass I studied Theater at Dean College and Cinema/Television at USC. Soon afterwards I met my husband, Jim, in New Orleans, and we moved to Amsterdam, Holland. After seven years, we came back to the U.S. with our son, Ola. I returned to academia at UMass to become a certified teacher K-3 teacher as I received a B.A. in both Early Childhood Education and Anthropology. I am honored to be working at the ECLS, with all its wonderful teachers, preschoolers and parents. This is truly an inspirational environment full of wonder and discovery for both the teachers and the preschoolers. I am also delighted to have my daughter, Lily, in room 5. |
The student teachers are enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Certification Program at the University. They work in a teaching team at the Lab School for one semester to satisfy requirements for Pre-K through 3rd Grade Certification. |

I had lived near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for three years when I was 9-12 years old. It is good to be back in the U.S. again. I have traveled around Europe, the U.S., Egypt, and Japan. I'm looking forward to spending time with the children |
Hi! I am Abby DeJackome. I am a Junior and I am double majoring in Early Childhood Education and History. I have worked in an infant/toddler daycare and a few preschools as a teacher and a teacher's assistant. I have also been a camp counselor for 5 and 6 year olds. I love working with children and plan to teach kindergarten when I graduate next year, granted I finish all of my courses on time. I am excited to know all of the children this semester, and I am positive we will all have a great time working together.

I'm Kate. I am studying Early Childhood Education, English and Music. I grew up in Brookline, MA. Before coming to UMass, I spent two years working in Boston. I discovered that I would love to teach young children while I was working in a kindergarten class in a Boston public school. I have worked in preschools in Boston and Northampton. I study piano and I like to sing. I also love to dance. I enjoy sharing music and movement with children.

Hi! My name is Mami Sato and I am currently a senior here at UMass. I am double majoring in Early Childhood Education and Japanese, as well as a minor in Economics. I am from Japan, but I lived in the U.S. from the age of four until thirteen. Upon returning to Japan, I attended an International School, which gave me the opportunity not only to receive an English-based education, but also to learn about different cultures from all over the world. My interest and passion for teaching children sparked during the time when I worked in the summer and winter programs at the International School. I am happy to say that I still return to the school every winter and summer when I go back home to Japan. I believe that my experiences I have with children from room 4 can help me in my future teachings, perhaps in an International School in a foreign country! |
