Previous Student Teachers
What do student teachers have to say about their preschool practicum experience after they leave the ECLS?
"The UMass Early Childhood Laboratory School was and remains
the most rewarding teaching experiences ever. I miss so many aspects of the
extraordinary techniques demonstrated within the Reggio Emilia Philosophy
of Education. This approach to teaching and learning has influenced me the
most.
After I bid farewell to UMass, I returned home to Albany, NY where I immediately
began graduate school. I am attending The University at Albany, graduating
in August 2002 with a Masters in Reading. I can't tell you how many papers
I have typed or professors I have spoken to about the Early Childhood Laboratory
School in Amherst, MA. I even chose to travel back to Massachusetts to interview
Ben and Lily Richards for an inquiry project assigned in a Teaching Writing
for Children course. My undergraduate training, especially under the supervision
of Dotty Meyer, Jane Broderick, Kate Strub-Richards, and Jamie Broadhead was
exceptional and prepared me for the work expected at the graduate level."
Lauren Reznitsky (4/2/02)
"I am the lead teacher for the four year old group at Agassiz Cooperative Preschool in Cambridge, MA. I love it but I would love to find a reggio inspired school to work at. Skinner has definately been the major influence on my teaching. My group and I have done three major projects this year- castles (which included dragons, magic, unicorns etc), space, and now we are exploring bones." Beth Williams (3/30/02)
"I use a lot that I have learned from ECLS because it is
so useful....It has been such an asset to my teaching style."
Marie Grygiel (3/29/02)
