Welcome

The UMass Amherst Pre-Law Advising Office provides students and alumni with a full range of information and options counseling regarding the law school application process.

We can help you decide whether to go to law school, which schools you should apply to, how to prepare for the LSAT, and how to finance your legal education. We also offer one-on-one assistance in drafting personal statements and other application addenda. We can also give you advice on how to obtain persuasive letters of recommendation. Finally, the Pre-Law Advising office is responsible for processing the Dean's Certification letters required by some law schools.

Your first source for information should be this website, where you will find an array of information on most topics related to the decision to attend law school (see links at right). You should also bookmark or subscribe to the UMass Pre-Law blog for announcements about workshops and panels on topics relating to law school and the practice of law, law school open houses, scholarship information and other law-related news.

If you don't find the answers here, or if you need personal assistance, please email us at prelaw@acad.umass.edu. We can discuss your questions via email, in person, or during a phone appointment. Please note that during the Fall semester, priority for appointments goes to students and alumni who are currently applying to law school.

Join the Pre-Law email list! Get regular updates about workshops, panels, and other important announcements. To be added to the list, please click here and enter the necessary personal information. (*Please do not send an e-mail request to be added to the list to the pre-law advisor.) You can also follow this link to unsubscribe from the list.
