Several awards and scholarships are given annually to Political Science majors who have compiled the most outstanding academic records. More information about these scholarships may be obtained from the Undergraduate Program Director, Barbara Cruikshank or the Office of Financial Aid Services in Whitmore.

William M. Bluestein Memorial Scholarship
Award: $1,000
Criteria: Interest in economics, public policy, or technology. Preference given to students who are the first in their family to attend college.

Granted annually to an academically strong Political Science major who has expressed and demonstrated an interest in a career in public services.
David C. Knapp Scholarship
Granted annually to Political Science majors who have compiled the most outstanding records of academic achievement. In recent years about 8-12 Knapp Scholarships have been awarded. Recipients are normally selected during their Junior year, making the scholarship funds available during their Senior year.
Tracey Lee Maker Memorial Scholarship Application ![]()
Granted annually to a full-time Political Science major on the basis of, first, demonstrated financial need and, second, outstanding academic achievement. Recipients are normally selected during their Sophomore or Junior years, making scholarship funds available the following year.
William F. Field Alumni Scholarships
To qualify, students who are SBS majors must have Junior status with a 3.5 GPA or above, and 60 residential credits. Department committees choose recipients in the spring semester. No application is needed for this award. All eligible students are automatically considered for this scholarship.
David A. Booth Scholarship Application ![]()
Granted to an incoming (freshman or transfer) minority student from an urban area.
James P. Pappas Presidential Scholarship
Provides scholarship assistance to students enrolled at the Amherst campus majoring in Political Science who exhibit high academic achievement and some level of financial need.
Luther A. Allen Scholarship Application ![]()
The purpose of the Fund will be to endow awards for undergraduate students in good
academic standing with demonstrated interest in international relations, and Francophile
studies including French-speaking nations and/or provinces. The Dean of the College of
Social and Behavioral Sciences will select recipient and administer the Fund.
Postgraduate Scholarships
Students should give early consideration to very competitive but outstanding postgraduate scholarships for study abroad. These include the Rhodes Scholarship and Marshall Scholarship for study in Great Britain, and Fulbright Scholarships for study in many countries.
