Undergraduate Programs – Internships and Study Abroad
Study Abroad
Studying abroad could be the most memorable experience of your college career. Mastering a language, exploring new cultures, or traveling to the other side of the earth in another country can lead to immense personal growth. UMass Amherst sponsors programs on six continents, including places such as Australia, Taiwan, Scotland, South Africa, and Germany. Basically, you could study anywhere in the world. Information about opportunities for study abroad, including the Warwick Exchange Program offered through the Department of Political Science, may be obtained from the International Programs Office in 469 Hills South.
Exchange Programs
Numerous opportunities are available for study at other institutions, where normal progress can be made toward satisfying UMass Amherst and departmental requirements.
Warwick Exchange Program: The department has a special undergraduate student exchange with the Department of Politics at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England. Further information about the Warwick exchange may be obtained from the department’s Warwick Exchange co-ordinator, Eric Einhorn Eric Einhorn (tel. 545.4079) or from the International Programs Office.
Five-College Exchange: Students in residence at UMass Amherst may register for courses at Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, or Smith Colleges. Information about opportunities in the Five-College area may be obtained from the Counseling Office in room 222, Thompson 222 and from the Five-College Interchange Office (614 Goodell).
National Student Exchange: The University of Massachusetts Amherst is a member of the National Student Exchange, which enables undergraduates to trade places for a year with a student from another state university. More information may be obtained from the National Student Exchange Program (614 Goodell).
The Washington Center Internship: Questions about the applicability of exchange credits to the major should be directed to Laura Reed. Students should consult with the Counseling Office on course selection before starting the exchange, and they should keep copies of their work and course syllabi when on exchange in order to assist in the determination of whether courses from other institutions satisfy major requirements.
