Open Faculty Positions
The Department of Political Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst continues its faculty hiring initiative
focusing on three key areas of contemporary political change: (1) global forces, (2) governance and institutions, and (3) democracy, participation, and citizenship. Building upon last year’s successful search that yielded four new faculty starting this fall, we are seeking this year to make multiple additional appointments at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels, all to start in September 2008. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
Candidates who demonstrate depth in one or more of the traditional fields of political science while having research and teaching interests that span those fields are especially attractive to us. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research is motivated by important political problems and questions in one or more of the three areas noted above by addressing the roles of ideas, power, and non‐state actors; questions of justice and inequality; and/or the ways in which national and international institutions give shape and adapt to emerging political dynamics.
The Department welcomes applications from all political scientists and scholars in related fields and is open to all methodological approaches. Successful candidates will be expected to teach core courses in the Department’s graduate and undergraduate programs, and should have the Ph.D. in hand by September 2008. We are particularly interested in hiring one or more scholars who can teach research design and quantitative methods at the graduate level.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer. The Department is strongly committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty, student body, and curriculum, and particularly encourages applications from women and minorities. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on October 12, 2007, and will continue until the positions are filled. Please send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three reference letters, and writing samples to the Faculty Search Committee, Department of Political Science, Thompson Hall, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003‐9277. Please indicate which of the three area(s) you are applying for; we fully anticipate that many candidates may be suitable for more than one area.
For questions about these positions, please contact one of the search committee co-chairs, Raymond La Raja and Jillian Schwedler.
