Title: Proportioning One’s Belief to the Evidence


Abstract: A wise person, we are told, proportions their belief to the evidence. Sounds like a great idea. What does it mean? Perhaps doing it, or trying to do it, involves judging (i) what “the evidence” is, and (ii) what bearing that evidence has on P. My aim is to try to make some sense out of both of these tasks.
