Training Workshops to Prepare for State Pesticide Applicator License Exams

This workshop, which is sponsored bb Pesticide Education, UMass Extension is designed to help individuals prepare for the pesticide applicator license exam. Based on exam results from January to August 2008, workshop participants had a 37% higher passing rate compared to those who did not attend the workshop. This workshop provides a review of the study manuals and is not intended to replace a thorough reading of the study manuals on your own.

The topics that will be covered during the workshop include:

  2. Pesticide Types and Formulations
  3. Pesticides and Human Health
  4. Protective Equipment and Safety
  5. Pesticides and the Environment
  6. Pesticide Labels
  7. Pesticide Laws and Regulations
  8. Integrated Pest Management
  9. A Take-home Practice Exam

Time:

  • 1st day 8:45 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
  • 2nd day 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.

Registration Fee:
$130.00/person (This covers the cost of the workshop and AM/PM coffee breaks; study manuals and exam fees are not included.

Registration Information:
Preregistration is required. Walk-ins will be admitted only if space is available. Please use the Registration Form.

Materials Needed:
All attendees should bring the Pesticide Applicator Core Manual (2nd edition) and Massachusetts Core Supplement (November 2000). In addition, they should bring the Massachusetts Pesticide Control Act (amended May 2000) and Massachusetts Pesticide Regulations (amendments March 2007). These are the study manuals that you will need to take the applicator license exam. The order form will help you obtain the needed materials.
Please remember to order your study materials well in advance of the selected workshop!

Other Information:
This workshop is optional. It is offered in order for you to have an opportunity to discuss questions that you have regarding the study manuals. Therefore you should read the study manuals prior to attending the workshop. This workshop will not cover information in the certification training manuals.

Special Accommodations:
Please contact the Pesticide Education Program as soon as possible if you require any special accommodations for the two day workshop.

Refunds:
There will be no refunds in the event that an individual can not attend a workshop. Instead, (1) another individual can take his/her place, or (2) he/she can attend another workshop (provided there is sufficient room). Notify the Pesticide Education Office in advance of the meeting date if either of the above options are chosen.

Cancellations:
The UMass Extension Pesticide Education program reserves the right to cancel workshops if there are less than 15 pre-registered participants. To determine whether or not a meeting is canceled due to low enrollment please call the Pesticide Education office. To determine whether or not the workshop is canceled due to bad weather, call the meeting location or the Pesticide Education office. If the meeting is canceled, registration fees will be refunded. Unfortunately, there will be no rescheduling of these workshops.

Confirmations:
If the Pesticide Education office receives your registration 10 days prior to the workshop, a confirmation letter will be sent to you that has additional meeting information and directions.
