In collaboration with Emile Bruneau and Linda Tropp , graduate student Thomas O'Brien collected data in the summer of 2013 in Ramallah, Palestine. Past research suggests that for high power groups, perspective taking can increase positive attitudes towards a low power group. In contrast, expressing one's perspective to an outgroup member and being heard by an outgroup member can increase low power group members' positive attitudes toward high power group members, at least in the short term. The current research extends past work by testing the effect of perspective giving vicariously, as well the factors that may mitigate positive effects over time.
