John Sheehan
- SGA President
Remarks at Campus Vigil
September 11, 2001

I’d like to start by saying how much it helps to see you all here. In situations such as these, it’s easy to feel handcuffed to help, either because you can’t find the right words, or you feel as if it’s not your place to feel remorse when others may be worse off than you. But it’s ok to feel that way, I think that you all know what I’m trying to say…because you’re all here.

Never forget, in times such as these, that we have one another. It’s as simple as a hug, or an understanding nod. It’s as simple as recognizing that the person next to you could have lost a loved one. If nothing else, it’s as simple as looking at the person next to you and simply feeling…acknowledging that you’re together in that.

I know of personal friends of mine that have already lost someone in today’s events. This isn’t a time for grandstanding, and this isn’t a time for fist-pumping. This is the time to come together as a family and let anyone affected know that you care.

For all who lost their lives today, God rest you and bless you.

For all those who lost someone, you have our love and prayers.

For all who are lost, you’re not alone, we’ve found each other.
