Since its founding in 1975, the UMass Fine Arts Center (the FAC) has been a central force in the cultural, social and academic life of the University and the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. The Fine Arts Center's combination of educational, visual, and performing arts programs makes it unique in the area, and secures a vital position for the FAC to meet the diverse needs of faculty, students, alumni and the broader community.
The Fine Art Center’s mission is to inspire, engage, and connect its community with exemplary art and culture from around the globe. From masters to emerging artists, from the traditional to the experimental, the FAC provides UMass students with extraordinary experiences and value with ticket prices offered at a fraction of the price at other universities. Admission to a performance by an artist of world renown can range anywhere from $5 to $20 max for students. Some of the artists coming to the FAC this spring include Brazilian contemporary dance troupe Grupo Corpo, the Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra, celtic favorites The Chieftains, London’s renowned orchestra Academy of St. Martin in the Fields with MacArthur Genius pianist Jeremy Denk, and the world’s best Beatles cover band, the Fab Faux, to name just a few.
The FAC also creates exceptional educational experiences for students, providing deeper meaning and satisfaction within the many art forms. Through artist residencies, creative dialogues, workshops, master classes, and pre-concert talks, the FAC connects students to each other, to the artists, and to the wonders of the arts.
The FAC also gives students hands-on experience in the arts field through work-study and internship programs in a variety of areas including arts administration, marketing, development, production services, museum studies, programming, hospitality, and audience services. There are also jobs available that do not require a work-study award such as the box office and backstage assistance.
