When is Family Weekend?

Family Weekend 2015  is Friday, October 2 - Sunday, October 4.

Can we make hotel reservations now?

We suggest you make your reservations sooner rather than later. To help you plan your visit, we've put together information on places to stay.

The communities with the most available rooms for October 2nd and 3rd (as of August 20th) are:

  • Northampton, 10 miles from Amherst
  • Chicopee, 18 miles from Amherst
  • West Springfield, 24 miles from Amherst
  • Springfield, 27 miles from Amherst

Will there be programming on Friday and Sunday of Family Weekend?

Yes, there will be a Career Center open house, lab tours, information sessions, and movie on Friday and a brunch on Sunday. The majority of the programming will be held on Saturday so if you cannot stay over night, you will still be able to participate in most of the events.

When will the schedule of events be available online?

The schedule of events is now available.

When will we be able to register for the weekend?

Online registration and raffle sales are now closed.

You can still register on-site at the Campus Center on the 2nd floor concourse on Friday, October 2 from 1:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday, October 3 from 8:30 AM - 12 Noon. The $40/family registration fee is non-refundable and must accompany each registration (fee includes: program materials and all non-ticketed Family Weekend activities). Please bring your checkbook or credit card if you plan to register on-site.

What is included in the Family Weekend fee?

The Family Weekend fee covers program materials, refreshments, and all non-ticketed events including open houses, information sessions, the late night movie, story hour, the Chancellor’s Welcome, lab/library/media outlet tours, wagon rides, pumpkin decorating, and trolley rides.

Ticketed events listed on the 2015 Family Weekend schedule that require a separate purchase are: the UMass vs Florida International University football game; the William Hite and Linda Osborn faculty recital; pick your own apples; and the Opera Cuatro Corridos.

We are divorced, but we both want to participate in Family Weekend for our student, how can we do this?

This is not a problem. After you register, email us at familyweekend@sacl.umass.edu to let us know the names of both parents/guardians and we will make up two separate packets for you.

How can my special needs be accommodated? (Handicapped parking, dietary restrictions, accessibility questions, etc)

After you register, please send us a note at familyweekend@sacl.umass.edu with your needs and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please note: We do not supply wheelchairs or scooters.

Where can I park for Family Weekend?

Complimentary parking for Family Weekend guests is available in the Campus Center Garage located at 1 Campus Center Way, Amherst, MA 01003 when you present your Family Weekend program to the attendant upon exiting the garage. This is the closest parking to our registration station on the Campus Center Concourse, level 2 and most of the activities. Parking in the garage is accessible on level 2.

If you are visiting your student near their residence halls, please note that lots 11 and 22 near Southwest will be closed starting Friday, October 2 at 11pm in preparation for Saturday’s football game. Cars parked in lots 11 or 22 will be towed at the owner’s expense starting at 11pm Friday until 4 hours before game time on Saturday (ie 11am). Please do not park in these lots during the closure period. For more information on parking in surface lots, please visit Parking Services online or call 413-577-PARK.

Parking for the football game Saturday is available starting at 11am in lots, 22, and 33. Lot 11 is reserved for season ticket holders. Accessible parking for the game is available at the stadium. For more details, including a map, click here. Parking lots are expected to fill for the game on Saturday, October 3. If you are able, we suggest keeping your car parked in the parking garage and walking to the stadium.

Are there other things to do in town that weekend?

Yes, there are several other things to do in the town of Amherst that weekend. There will be a special page in your registration packet that will have the information for these events.
