Family Weekend October 21-23!

We can’t wait to see you again at Family Weekend, October 21-23, 2016.  Family Weekend is yet another opportunity for your whole family including extended members to come to campus to spend time with your student and experience student life like never before. Throughout the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to reconnect with your student, visit buildings and labs, connect with other undergraduate families, talk to University staff, attend information sessions, and tour your student’s favorite spots.

If you arrive Friday, you can head to the Student Farmer’s Market to catch a glimpse at different produce and crafts grown and made by students. You can also stop by the Campus Center for a conversation with an academic dean; take the siblings to the library for a tour and some coloring activities; take a hard hat tour of the renovated South College, the new home of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts; or attend the Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS) Open House. Later that evening our Parents Association Advisory Council will greet you to a reception with light refreshments, music, and fun.  From the reception you can head either to the Campus Center for a late night movie featuring “Zootopia” or the Student Union for Mini Golf.

On Saturday, you can take a morning stroll through campus; get the latest UMass updates from Chancellor Subbaswamy; or attend the UMAPA general meeting and some information sessions. At lunch time, enjoy some home cooking at the Taste of Home Lunch in our #1 Award Winning Dining Commons. After lunch, we invite you to stop by the center of campus for our seasonal activities which include pumpkin decorating, caramel apple dipping stands, a popcorn bar, wagon rides, and trolley rides to downtown Amherst! You can also tour the Award-Winning Franklin Dining Commons Permaculture Garden; join the UMass Landscape and Construction Management crew and see a tree spade in action and plant your own bouquet garni box with herbs; attend the UMass Police Department and the Amherst Fire Station Open Houses for a tour of their facilities, some safety tips or just to meet the staff; or bring your own bike or borrow one on a first-come first-served basis and participate in a bike tour of campus with Sustainable UMass. On Saturday night, you can attend an Active Threat training facilitated by our Police Department staff; let our students entertain you at the Student Showcase; or come play Laser Tag.  Sunday, the weekend wraps up with some meditation and a Jazz brunch.

Whether you’re in your first or final year as a UMass Amherst parent, guardian, grandparent, or extended family member, we hope to see you at this popular annual event. There’s something for every family member to enjoy.

You can also review the most up to date schedule for more information.

Don’t forget to bring your 2016 UMass Parents Association Membership Key Fob! Local businesses in the Amherst area have provided all UMAPA members with terrific discounts.
