One goal we have for your students is that they will become engaged and active members of our campus community and beyond. While they are here studying, growing, and developing as students, they may also be called on by the greater community to fulfill a number of civic duties, some of them for the first time.
Students at the university may be called to serve on local juries regardless of their residency designation, because they live in the area for more the 50% of the year. The university encourages students to participate in this civic responsibility. More detailed
information about class absences for jury duty is available on the Registrars Web site.
Students are also encouraged to register to vote. While a number of campus clubs and organizations will offer voter registration drives, student may also register through the town:
• Students must be 18 or older to register to vote.
• Students can register in Amherst by visiting the Town Clerk’s Office (4 Boltwood Ave. Amherst, MA.) and completing a form in person, by emailing the Town Clerk’s Office (email@example.com), or by calling (800) 462-VOTE.
