UMPD's Like It, Lock It, Keep It Campaign

The University of Massachusetts Police Department (UMPD) strives to not only provide a fast and reliable response should crime occur, but to also provide proactive programs to help prevent crime. One of the programs that was designed to do just this is “Like it, Lock it, Keep it". This program is delivered through the UMass Police Department's Community Outreach Unit. The program is delivered to the community through fliers, posters, residence hall talks, meetings, etc.. The goal of the program is to educate everyone that they need to do their part in preventing crime by securing their belongings. The program's main focus is in the residence halls where students commonly leave their doors unsecured, often times the door is ajar with valuables in plain sight. When students leave their room, even if it is only for a minute, they should lock their door. We have been successful in reducing thefts from residence halls with these six simple words “Like it, Lock it, Keep it”! Read more
