Symposium: Beyond Outreach to Scholarly Engagement
In October 2007, the Faculty Senate Outreach Council and the Office of Outreach sponsored a symposium: Beyond Outreach to Scholarly Engagement. This was an opportunity for university administrators, faculty and outreach leaders to share knowledge and explore ideas that are part of a growing national movement that is based on the idea that a responsive university is critical to the health and well-being of individuals, families, businesses, communities, and to the future of higher education. At the conclusion of the symposium our Provost presented a challenge to our academic units to work towards developing a consistent message and approach for supporting engagement that is high quality and that has value for teaching, for the knowledge base of academic disciplines and for our collaborators.
