The Financial Support, Experience & Mentoring You Need for a Research Career in the Sciences

The UNCF/Merck Science Initiative (UMSI) provides undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral support to outstanding African-American students who are pursuing studies and research careers in biological and chemical sciences.

Every year, scholarships are awarded through a national competition. Awards offer excellent advantages that get you ahead in your academic life and career:

• Funds that cover tuition, fees, and room and board and more. Up to $25,000 for undergrads, $52,000 for grad students, and $85,000 for postdoctoral researchers.
• Summer internships at one of four Merck research facilities with stipends totaling $10,000 (for undergraduates only).
• Close mentoring relationships with Merck scientists.
• Membership in the Association of UNCF/Merck Fellows.
