Summer Opportunities Program

The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis provides opportunities for undergraduate, pre-med and medical students enrolled at Washington University or other accredited universities to work on cancer research projects during the summer. Opportunities range from basic laboratory research to clinical research to prevention/control and population research.
Applicants selected for the program will receive a $3,500 stipend for a 10-week summer research period from May 31 through Aug. 5, 2011, though some flexibility is available. Approximately 12 students will be selected. Please apply online starting Jan. 1, 2011.

A stipend is provided to participants for living expenses (including housing) during the summer. This program usually works with the Washington University School of Medicine  housing office to arrange for housing in a dormitory on the medical school campus, where most projects are conducted, for out-of-town participants. The housing office offers summer term rates as space allows.
The summer program accepts students with diverse backgrounds and experience. There is no set number of accepted participants of any specific class year or preparation.
