2011  Summer Undergraduate Research Program 

Ten Week Program - May 29, 2011 - August 5, 2011 

The University of Massachusetts Medical School Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity is a non-credit, ten-week, structured research experience.
The program consists of "hands-on" laboratory research experience with an investigator serving as a mentor, role model and advisor.
Goals  Attract students who are disadvantaged, disabled and from a group that in under represented in bio medical research.
Provide participants in-depth exposure to the actual scientific research in the hopes that the excitement, challenge and creativity of the enterprise will convince them to consider research in the sciences as a viable career choice.
Applications
Applications must be submitted online. Applications will be available on November 1st 2010. The application submission deadline is March 12, 2011 including supplemental application materials. 
Eligibility  All participants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and at least eighteen years of age to apply. You can not be receiving funding from any other sources during the program. 
Summer Research Fellows are placed in laboratories for ten weeks at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center with the investigator serving as a mentor, role model and advisor.
Summer Research Fellows will receive a stipend of $4000. and local housing is arranged by the program  and is heavily funded by the program.
Summer Research Fellows are required to attend all seminars, lectures, group discussions, luncheon lectures, socializers and field trips and live in the housing provided.
You are also expected to attend the full ten week program. If the start date of the program conflicts with your final exams, arrangements can be made to have the exam administered here at UMMS utilizing the in house examination service.
