The UMass Amherst Geospatial Research and Education "Workshop" is a collection of people interested in spatial data management and analysis, in general, and open source geospatial technologies more specifically.
Our mission, as one of the founding laboratories in the
Geo for All Network (http://www.geoforall.org/),
is to develop and foster collaborative teaching and
research opportunities in the area of open source
geospatial technologies and data. There are now over 65
such labs in our collaborative network (http://www.geoforall.org/locations/)
and this continues to grow.
Why the "Workshop" label?
By referring to this group as a "Workshop". we are placing
an emphasis on faculty and students working together in a
"workshop environment" as co-producers (mentors and
apprentices) where there is no real hierarchy. Students
play an equal role in the research and education process.
