Programs

The Office of Family Resources is dedicated to providing programs and services all of which are free of charge to participating families.

Amherst Family Center

A week day drop-in program for UMass and Hampshire County families with children birth to five years. The Amherst Family Center (AFC) is located in downtown Amherst; the AFC is overseen by a coordinator and two early childhood educators. The AFC offers opportunities to connect with other families, participate in educational programs, support groups, and engage in interactive cultural events.

Dinner On Us

A Monday evening, parenting workshop series, during the academic year, for campus and Amherst Family Center families with young children. Sessions include dinner, supervised play activities, and parking.

Special Saturdays

A monthly, Saturday morning program, during the academic year, offering interactive performances as well as arts and crafts activities for UMass and Amherst Family Center families and their young children.

Babysitting Options

The OFR assists families with young children in their search for childcare. We provide a web-based bulletin board to post home-based babysitting needs and/ or services. In addition, this website provides links to licensed childcare providers.

Pioneer Valley Oil Co-op

An oil buying cooperative that permits individuals, households, and businesses to purchase home heating oil at a reduced cost.

Child Care Tuition Assistance

Provides undergraduate student tuition assistance to support either full day or part day Pre-K childcare and K-6 public after school or summer care.

Apple Harvest Festival

A re-creation of an old-fashioned New England community fair, coupled with the presentation and sale of beautiful art and fine crafts. The festival is the largest fund-raising event of the year for the Amherst Family Center.
