Overview
The Office of Faculty Development helps foster leadership at UMass Amherst through our mentoring programs, consultations with deans and department chairs, and participation in committees across campus. We also offer the following programs and resources to develop faculty leaders on campus.
LEAD
In 2009-2010, the OFD will assume responsibility for the Leadership Enhancement for Academic Departments (LEAD) Program, which develops and supports department chairs and heads. We look forward to sharing more information about this program in the coming year.
Profiles in Mentoring
The OFD also encourages faculty, chairs/heads, deans, and other members of the UMass Amherst community to nominate for acknowledgment faculty whose leadership in mentoring exemplifies the values of community, collaboration, and collegiality. Current profiles exemplary mentoring include:
- Dr. Robert Feldman
Professor, Department of Psychology; and Associate Dean, College of Social and Behavioral Sciences
- Dr. Anna Nagurney
John F. Smith Memorial Professor, Department of Finance and Operations, Isenberg School of Management
Chancellor’s Junior Faculty Fellows
On behalf of the Chancellor’s Office, the OFD coordinates the Chancellor’s Junior Faculty Fellows Program, which fosters an exchange of ideas between the central administration of the campus and promising new faculty members. As part of the program, fellows meet regularly each semester with the Chancellor to discuss the direction of the campus community and how the central administration can assist junior faculty in accomplishing their professional goals.
Check back again soon as we continue to enhance our resources and programming for leadership development at UMass Amherst.
