SRTI is the product of a collaboration between OAPA and the Institute for Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development (TEFD), with guidance from and review by the Faculty Senate Council for Teaching, Learning, and Technology and on- and off-campus measurement experts.
The SRTI instrument is designed to provide faculty members with useful feedback on students' experiences in the classroom. The items on the instrument focus on aspects of teaching that are highly related to student learning and satisfaction and are appropriate for the wide variety of instructional styles and courses taught at UMass Amherst.
The SRTI course survey is now administered online for all credit‐bearing lecture, lab, seminar, studio/skills, and practicum sections. The University has discontinued the processing of paper SRTI forms.
The SRTI online system was developed and is maintained by UMass Amherst IT in collaboration with OAPA. The system has many benefits—it streamlines processing and facilitates timely dissemination of results, reduces demands on staff time, allows us to create instructor reports of students' responses to open-ended questions, and helps us move toward becoming a paperless campus.
