Ph.D. in Nursing Program

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Ph.D. in Nursing program prepares nurse researchers, scholars, and educators to advance nursing knowledge and improve professional practice.

The PhD program is open to nurses who have graduated from accredited programs with either a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a masters degree in nursing.

The program consists of between a minimum of 57 credits (masters prepared students) and 81 credits (for baccalaureate students). The program prepares students to synthesize knowledge from nursing and other disciplines in order to address complex health-care issues and become leaders in nursing research and education.

Applicants must have acceptable Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, and choose a research focus congruent with that of a potential research advisor.

UMass Amherst Graduate School Application. The graduate school will forward your application to the School of Nursing along with your transcripts, letters of reference, and GRE scores (you do not have to send double).
