Healthcare Challenge for Nursing Students: HHS/ONC Launches Blood Pressure Video Challenge
ONC has partnered with Million Hearts to seek support from developers and film enthusiasts’ alike in creating short, compelling videos that share how consumers can use health IT or consumer e-health tools to manage high blood pressure through activities, including:
- Routine monitoring of blood pressure
- Taking blood pressure medication as prescribed
- Maintaining a healthy lifestyle that helps lower blood pressure

School of Nursing's Faculty and Staff Campaign
I would like to thank and recognize the faculty and staff for their participation in the School of Nursing’s Faculty and Staff Campaign. This year 1,162 members of our campus community donated over $727,000 to support the Campaign.
The School of Nursing ranked in 2nd place for participation with a rate of 45%. This past Wednesday, Donna Zucker, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, accepted the award on behalf of the School. We had 18 out of 40 colleagues make a donation to UMass Amherst. We donated over $3,000.

2011- 2012 Application for Dr. Eileen Hayes Memorial Scholarship for DNP and PhD students is now available.
ALL scholarships will be presented in early September 2012, all recipients will be required to attend and you must be fully matriculated during the Fall of 2012. Your scholarships will be posted on SPIRE in September. Applicaton deadline is April 27,2012

UMass - Amherst 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient
This year University Massachusetts, Amherst Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient Susan Hagedorn '77 is a nationally recognized nurse, filmmaker and philanthropist. As a retired pediatric and women’s health nurse practitioner specializing in adolescence, Hagedorn serves on the emeriti faculty of the University of Colorado School of Nursing.
After retiring from her career in medicine, Hagedorn decided to pursue her love of filmmaking. She founded Seedworks Films for which she produces and directs documentaries for social change.
