Dean's letter - A Year in ReviewAlumni and friends of the college: It has been another year of great achievement for the students, staff, and faculty of the College of Natural Resources and the Environment. We have won national and international awards of the highest distinction and too many in number to report on this page. Our programs continue to grow in quality and distinction. Among the many highlights of the year: Our new Turf Research and Education Building was completed and dedicated on November 1, thanks to the generosity of some 250 alumni, friends, and organizations. We are currently recruiting faculty with the intention of making ours the best turf program anywhere. Veterinary and Animal Sciences initiated the nation's first Camelid Studies program. We received alpacas from a variety of donors and have hired a veterinarian with extensive camelid experience to teach and perform research. His position was made possible by a very generous gift from friends Ian and Jennifer Lutz. The Food Science Advisory Board is nearing completion of a million-dollar campaign to endow several graduate fellowships. Pepsi endowed the first of these fellowships to recruit and fund graduate students in the doctoral program. We are making good progress in endowing the Directorship of the Stockbridge School, and hope to announce the completion of that endowment by June 10, when we shall hold a special Stockbridge School reunion and commencement ceremony. We will be presenting Associate of Science degrees to the Stockbridge School classes of 1920 through 1960, who originally received certificates. Last year, I reported on the success of our first-ever college graduation celebration. I'm happy to say that the second college celebration took place with even greater popularity, and feedback from students and their families was extraordinarily positive. We're making the college celebration a permanent fixture-there is nothing like walking across a podium and being recognized individually. It is a pleasure for all of us at the college to make that moment possible. With very best wishes,
