Dean Willis collaborates on experimental economics in Bogota
Dean Willis and several
colleagues from the Resource
Economics Department
traveled to Bogota, Colombia
to work with faculty and
students at Pontifica
Universidad Javeriana and
Universidad de los Andes.
The project, funded by the
State Department, studies
how rural populations use
their local natural resources
and how they respond
to government regulations
to promote conservation.
The subjects are given
various regulatory scenarios
and asked how their usage
would change in each
context. Their choices are
then analyzed for policy
implications. “Our work
in experimental economics
is unique in that the decision
makers are rural villagers
who are directly affected
by their use of natural
resources,” said John
Stranlund, one of the
project leaders.
