Or, write to request an application: Undergraduate Admissions, University of Massachusetts Amherst, 37 Mather Drive, Amherst, MA 01003-9291

For freshman, the application should be completed and returned by January 15th to be considered for fall enrollment and October 1st for spring enrollment. For transfer students the deadlines are April 15 for fall enrollment and October 1st for spring. Stockbridge School students and international students not currently studying in the U.S. are not able to start in the spring semester.

The primary factor for freshman admission is your high school performance, including the quality and level of your courses, your grades, your grade point average, class rank, and grade trends. SATs or ACTs are required. You have the opportunity to strengthen your application through submitting an essay describing any personal circumstances or academic experiences whether positive or negative that you feel are important for the University to know about you. This personal statement is not required but can strengthen an application, achievement tests, and letters of recommendation are not required but can also strengthen an application. Extracurricular activities, work experience, and letters of recommendation are also considered.

International Student Admissions

International undergraduate applicants should request that an application be mailed to them. International students currently studying in the United States may use the on-line application form. They must complete the International Student Sponsor Statement, which is available from the Undergraduate Admissions Office. International students who are not currently studying in the United States must complete the International Student Application. This is available from the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Spring enrollment is not permitted. If you are not a native speaker of English, TOEFL or ELPT scores are required.
