We would like to recommend a book.
The book is “Making the Most of College, Students
Speak Their Minds” by Richard J. Light
|
Professor Light teaches at Graduate School of Education and the John
F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The book is published
by Harvard University Press (www.hup.harvard.edu).
The book examines what makes the higher education experience enriching
and rewarding from the students perspective. To highlight a few of the
suggestions:
-
Time management is the most important skill
-
Independent research project and internships are a source of learning
and satisfaction
-
Studying in groups and pairs can be more productive than studying
alone.
We don’t have any vested interest in the book but we have found
it helpful and we recommend it to our faculty. If you are a parent you
might read this book and then pass it down to your daughter or son. If
you are a student, you might read this book and then leave it on the coffee
table for mom and dad to read some night.
