Geoffrey Cornish receives Distinguished Alumni Award

at the State House

NRE Alumnus Geoffrey Cornish (Class of 1950) was presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award at a banquet at the State House. Mr. Cornish was one of only four Alumni who received the award, and was honored for his contribution to golf course architecture.

Mr. Cornish has designed over 200 new golf courses throughout the U.S., Canada, Central America and Europe. He co-authored one of the widest selling books in golf history, The Golf Course (since revised and republished as The Architects of Golf), which is considered the only definitive history of golf course design. Mr. Cornish is the recipient of numerous national and international awards, has been listed in Who's Who in America, and has been inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Alumni Association established the Distinguished Alumni Awards to recognize the outstanding achievements - either professional or in the realm of University or public service - by alumni, faculty and special friends of the University. The award honors alumni who have attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and who have translated their UMass experience into distinguished service.
