Growers, gardeners, area public officials and others will gather Tuesday, Aug. 21 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Crop Research and Educational Center in South Deerfield to hear about the latest research in a wide range of agricultural areas ranging from vegetable and cover crops to crops for fuel.
The annual UMass Amherst Vegetable and Agronomic Crops Research Field Day will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Each of the sessions is $20 or $15 each for two participants from the same farm.
The program will include briefings on a wide range of experiments currently underway at the farm, as well as a tour of new farm facilities. The earlier session will be followed by lunch, while the later session will include a barbeque featuring Brazilian and other ethnic dishes prepared with crops grown by UMass Amherst researchers for the Brazilian and Salvadoran markets.
Participants are also being invited to bring plant disease samples to a free on-site diagnostic clinic.
