Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary

Study breeding, nutrition, physiology, diseases, production, and management of domestic and lab animals. Examine the importance of animals in world food production, biomedical research, biotechnology, and recreation.

Concentrations

Animal Biotechnology/Research
Explores biology, embryo manipulation, and cell and tissue culture. Graduates are prepared for laboratory or research technologist careers (especially in biotechnology laboratories) which are expanding rapidly in the Northeast.
Equine Studies
Offers a unique opportunity for specialized work with horses. The curriculum includes basic science and animal sciences courses with a concentration in either equitation or horse management, or a combination of both. Students may explore various career opportunities with a semester internship or work opportunity in some aspect of the horse industry in exchange for academic credit. Graduates become riding instructors, stable managers, horse trainers, educators, and scientists.
Livestock Studies
Offers both academic and practical experience with a variety of livestock species. Students train in production, management, consumer and environmental concerns, and the economics and marketing of agricultural products. Academic and associated laboratory experiences are designed to maximize student/animal interaction. Graduates work in vocational agriculture teaching, production agriculture, international agriculture, veterinary and research laboratories, and agricultural product marketing.
