Try it all out

Sometimes there's no substitue for seeing for yourself.

We've got three great options for not getting boxed in. Pick the one that works for you.

Enroll as an NRE undeclared major

We won't make you play pin the tail on the donkey to choose your fate before you're ready. Take a few semesters to try it all out. We'll be here when it's time to talk it through and make a decision. And if you've got some inkling but just aren't ready to commit, our undergrad advisors can give you the inside scoop on which classes are hard to get into, and which ones you can put off for a little while.

Go inter-disciplinary

The Environmental Science program gives students a dynamic, high-level overview of issues from the molecular to the planetary. With a focus on the sciences, you'll learn the basic theories and techniques needed to monitor environmental quality, to interpret the impact us humans are making on land and water ecosystems, and to figure out how we can clean up after ourselves. (They don't call her mother earth for nothing.) Learn more about Environmental Science >>

The Natural Resource Studies program (NAREST) also gives students a look at the bigger picture, but with an emphasis on natural resource conservation and management. Conserving our resources truly is a multi-disciplinary effort, involving the natural and environmental sciences, the social sciences, and evaluative fields like political science and economics. The NAREST program delivers a personal approach, integrating science, technical management, and social organization. With a full 45 credit hours of electives, you'll have the flexibility to design a degree that meets your specific interests. Learn more about Natural Resource Studies >>

Both programs feature classes taught by NRE faculty from other departments. Find a subject that really speaks to you? You'll have a built-in resource for seeing what it would be like to dive deeper.

Forge your own path

Got a clear idea, but just not seeing it on the list? Not a problem. No matter what your interest in the environment, we'll work with you to create a curriculum that fits. Want to be a nature photographer? Or a circus trainer? Got you covered. With all our connections at the University, in the Five College Consortium, and beyond, we'd be truly impressed if you came up with a career path we couldn't prepare you for. Learn more about BDIC >>
