What is the difference between an internship and a co-op?

Internships:

  • Associated with academic credits (tuition)
  • Faculty sponsor is required
  • Part-time or full-time
  • Summer, semester or January
  • Occasionally salaried

Co-ops:

  • Salaried
  • Summer, six months, eight months, or a combination
  • Considered a full-time student while at placement
