Priorities and Timeline
The committee suggests the following timeline for actions to be taken by NRE. Within the timeline, actions are listed by priority. Of course, progress on these items in a shorter time frame than suggested is desirable.
Year 1
-
Provide training for NRE Department Heads and Supervisors to provide them with tools to create a work atmosphere of inclusion and satisfaction for all employees in the workplace. NRE customized workshops would address the needs of different types of supervisors within the College.
-
Establish a NRE CDSJ Committee to address these issues in regard to the student academic experience, and to the experience of graduate and undergraduate students as employees.
-
Institute succinct, simple, and regular college-wide communications by email to keep people informed of events and issues.
-
Include all personnel in college-wide functions (e.g., College Day and annual college meetings) and improve communication about them.
Year 2
-
Conduct college-wide workshops on CDSJ goals and values, with mixed groups of employee types attending each meeting.
-
Create a committee to evaluate progress on CDSJ issues and make recommendations for further actions.
-
Include all team players in meetings held at the college level. Encourage participation and discussion by all staff in order to improve the learning and working environment of the college.
-
Review the formal and informal awards structure of the college and make changes to improve the recognition process and coverage of all employee groups and students.
Year 3
-
Include all team players in meetings held at the department level. Encourage participation and discussion by all staff in order to improve the learning and working environment of the department.
-
Create committees similar to those for faculty personnel at the college level for professional, classified, and graduate student staff. These committees would manage the concerns specific to each staff category.
